Sky Plans 3D Music Festivals

This will certainly be the summer of 3D for Sky TV customers. The network just announced plans to broadcast The Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival, both in 3D. "The festivals we have chosen to partner attract some of the biggest and most exciting acts. We are particularly excited about Bestival and the Isle of Wight festivals, where we'll break new ground by bringing them to the life through 3D," said John Cassy, channel director of Sky Arts and Sky 3D. "Broadcasting live in 3D is an amazing opportunity to bring viewers closer than ever to the real festival experience." Coverage of The Isle of Wight Festival will begin on June 10. Sky 3D plans to air 2 hours of live 3D coverage each day, which will include performances by Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Foo Fighters, Plan B and Pulp. Bestival runs from September 8 through 11, and will include acts such as The Cure, Pendulum, Brian Wilson, Primal Scream and Robyn. Sky also plans to air 10 other music festivals between those two events. However, those will not in be in 3D.
