Study Predicts 15 Million 3DTVs By 2012

Is 3D a fad? Not according to a new study by Futuresource . The company's new report is predicting that 15 million 3DTVs will be in homes by the end of 2012. CNET says that sales could see an increase, as gear prices drop and content continues to pop up. Right now, we are seeing a lot of new 3D content coming from service providers. Sure, more Blu-ray 3D discs are expected for 2011, but they still seem to be trickling. After all, are they waiting for the next Ice Age to release " Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ?" Of course, the report doesn't specify the number of 3DTV owners actually using 3D features. Glasses are still expensive, you know -- as well as necessary for every single 3D viewer. Still, it's a nice boost, considering that 4 million 3DTV sets were sold worldwide last year.
