Taking the role of Indiana Jones, Toshiba is reportedly set to make a play for the Holy Grail of the consumer video industry: Glasses-free 3D TV. The website Pocket-lint.com reports that the Japanese company is not only preparing to debut a line of passive-3D TV products to coexist alongside its active 3D TV solutions, its also claiming that that Toshiba will launch a glasses-free 3D TV within the next 12 months. Until the glasses-free 3D TVs are released 3D enthusiasts can now choose between the company's existing active 3D TV products and the soon-to-be released VL Series, which will offer consumers a choice between a 42- and 47-inch screen size. In its story Pocket-Link says the new passive 3D TVs will incorporate Toshiba's Personal TV feature, which allows each household member to setup a personal user profile that includes volume settings, picture settings and favorite channels. Other features bundled into the the new passive line of 3D TVs include Toshiba's Auto Calibration mode that is said to adjust the TVs' color levels to match post-production standards, and other technologies such as the company's Active Vision M400HD motion processing, Wi-Fi connectivity, HDMI 1.4 and DLNA compatibility.
