
Back when the broadcast and consumer electronics industries were trying to push the benefits of high-definition television (HDTV) many experts pointed to the improved experience the technology would provide to sporting events. Now about 10 years later experts from both industries are again touting the potential of a new technology and how it could impact the experience of sports. Home Media magazine is reporting that 3D technology advocates are pointing to the potential combination of sports and 3D video to drive the adoption of 3D in the home. In an April 16 story, the trade publication talked to several technology analysts that claim sports should be a key component of any campaign to drive the adoption of 3D technologies. "Sports programming has been a key component for driving the success of virtually every new media technology over the past 90 years, from analog radio to broadcast television, to cable, satellite, broadband and wireless," says Lee Berke, president and CEO of LHB Sports, Entertainment & Media in the Home Media magazine story.
