3D Cinema Popularity Predicts Home 3D Success

Without a doubt the reemergence of the 3D video format is one of the most controversial developments to occur in the consumer electronics market. The format, despite the criticisms of traditional videophiles is growing and proponents of the technology are emphasizing the growth of 3D-capable cinemas in the commercial market as proof of the technology's increasing popularity. Home Media magazine says that 3D supporters are pointing to the format's success in commercial cinemas as a gauge that people can use to determine whether the format will succeed in the home. "We're building to a second boon," says Chris Chinnock, president of Insight Media in the Home Media magazine report. Insight Media is a company that organized and oversees an entertainment and electronics trade organization called 3D@Home Consortium , and the group's members include Intel , Sony , Dolby Labs , THX , Turner Broadcasting and ESPN 3D . In the story Chinnock claims there are more than 100 3D films currently in production and that there could be a total of at least 140 3D movies slated to hit the cinemas between 2012 and 2015. He asserts that most of these titles will be released to the home video market...
