Prime Focus Doing Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menance 3D Conversion

Prime Focus, a group who provides creative and technical services to the film, broadcast, commercials, internet and media industries, has announced they've been selected by Lucasfilm to help convert Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace from 2D to 3D. According to Prime Focus, Lucasfilm and ILM selected Prime Focus after an exhaustive testing process. Prime Focus boasts working on some successful 3D titles in the past, like Avatar , Shrek , and The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader . Even George himself has some positibe comments to say about their work. “It was incredibly important to me that we have the technology, the resources and the time to do this right,” said Star Wars creator George Lucas. “I’m very happy with the results I’ve been seeing on Episode I .” That, unfortunately, may not be enough. To date, nearly all 2D to 3D conversions have been poorly recieved thanks to the unnatural look and inconsistent 3D presentation.
